The origins of Mesmerism.

The Vienese physician Franz Anton Mesmer was intruiged by street magic.

He theorized that disease was caused by imbalances of a physical force, called animal magnetism, which efects various parts of the body and that cures could be achieved by redistributing this magnetic fluid.
